E3 2018

Nintendo’s E3 2018 Press Conference Recap

Nintendo played safe this year, and disappointed in the process. Some new games were shown here, but it’s obvious all the eggs are in the Super Smash Bros. basket. It’s as good a basket as any, don’t get me wrong. But there was nothing jaw-droppingly exciting announced here.

Daemon X Machina

Nintendo showed off one rocking new trailer for this mech game. The bangin’ much and fast-paced action looked like a good time for mech fans.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Torna: The Golden Country

I honestly don’t much about this game, but the new DLC looks very much like the JRPG so many people loved last year.

Super Mario Party

Nintendo mined one of their tried-and-true franchises yet again. Mario Party usually works really well to show off a Nintendo console’s unique features, and this looks to be no exception. Plenty of family fun to be had here.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Another quality entry here. Doesn’t look like it wants to radically change the format of the franchise, but there is some joy in seeing Fire Emblem in such incredible fidelity. Exploration seems to widen the breadth of the world, but combat seems identical to franchise standards.

Fortnite

Shocking nobody, Fortnite is coming to Switch. Today! No-brainer move here.

Overcooked 2

I never did get around to playing the first game, but Scott swears by it. I think this looks like a lot of fun, though. See for yourself.

Killer Queen Black

The arcade hit makes its way to console. Scott rants and raves about this one. His joy was palpable at announcement. It looks pretty cool for multiplayer. The art on this one looks slick.

Hollow Knight

Today! Seems like a big get for Nintendo. This game sold like hotcakes last years and took home plenty of awards. Nintendo has been killing it with indies.

Octopath Traveler

We didn’t see anything Square Enix didn’t show yesterday, but we did get one exciting tidbit. New demo June 14th. This game looks incredible. Can not wait.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

This is the Wii U version retouched for current-gen. Every character in Smash history is back. It’s bold and awesome to see the full crew back. Ambitious, to say the least. Nintendo knows it has fans back on their side with Switch, and they clearly won’t let that go. Good for them. They also detailed the changes coming to some of the characters. And guess what? The Gamecube controller returns yet again. May it never die. Also, Ridley joins the roster, finally answering YEARS of fan demand.

Kind of a bummer not to see Metroid Prime 4 at all. There were some hits here, but not exactly a conference to remember. Maybe Nintendo is buckling down for a big 2019.
