Splatoon getting a free content update Thursday, August 6th!
Nintendo continues their promise to offer more free content to their original multiplayer shooter Splatoon. On Thursday, August 6th, Splatoon is getting a sizable update that adds quite a few new goodies to the Wii U exclusive, with a few of them very much welcome! First off, we’re getting a Squad Battle mode that allows friends to form squads, similar to the Battlefield series, and play ranked battles online much easier with their buddies. Second, a Private Battle mode is being added that pits friends against one another using custom rules, allowing players to fight in 1 on 1 battles or more without having to play in the Battle Dojo offline.
The level cap will be raised from 20 to 50, with 40 new pieces of gear being added to the game to help further customize your inkling character. Two new weapon types will also be added, including a Slosher that spews ink similar to slinging buckets of ink at your enemies, and a Splatling Gun that rapidly fires large amounts of ink in succession. Unfortunately we’re not getting any new maps in this update, but Nintendo promises to deliver more in the next update incoming later this Summer. Splatoon could always use new content and the two new modes in this update SHOULD have been in the game at launch. Now may be a great time to finally jump into Splatoon if you haven’t already.
