New major Super Mario Maker update hits November 4th

It looks like a few items on our wishlist of features we wanted to see in Super Mario Maker are becoming a reality thanks to Nintendo’s continued support for the popular do-it-yourself Mario title. Nintendo will be rolling out an update for Super Mario Maker on November 4th that includes some new tools and goodies.

The first big change is the addition of checkpoint flags that will allow creators to place checkpoints in their stages that allow players to continue from a certain point in the stage upon death. Also, placing priority on power-ups found in question blocks depending on Mario’s current state will be added, which allows the creator to control what power-up appears depending on if Mario is already small or has a lesser powerful item already equipped. Users can also integrate mini-games into their levels too.

Course World, Super Mario Maker’s online hub, will receive a few new features too. An Event Hub will be added that allows special curators to post levels to the community that act as events, with the first being stages made by employees of Facebook. An Official Makers feature will also allow users to seek out stages made by Nintendo employees too, making the stages feel like almost official Super Mario stages in a way.

I’m thrilled to see Nintendo build upon this game, which is something we all wanted out of Super Mario Maker. It is exciting to see how this game will change throughout the year and we hope to see more cool additions in the near future. Check out the trailer below that showcases the new changes.
