E3 2017: EA Press Conference Recap

This year’s E3 conference kicked off on Saturday with an individual press conference from Electronic Arts. Here’s a recap of the events that took place there along with all of the trailers show during the press conference.

After a brief introduction by a drumline of people wearing New England Patriots jerseys, CEO Andrew Wilson took the stage to talk about the upcoming updates for “Battlefield 1” called “In the Name of the Tsar”, which will release in September. The DLC includes six new maps, as well as new vehicles and weapons. Two additional maps will be released in June and July respectively. These maps are called “Nivelle Nights” and “Prise de Tahure” and will both be in a nighttime setting in France.

No EA press conference would be complete without a heavy dose of sports games. The next game shown on stage was “FIFA 18”, which continues “The Journey” of Alex Hunter, the player from the campaign from “FIFA 17” last year. In an interesting move, players will follow Alex through his second season in the league. The game launches on September 26th in the US on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

We already knew that “Need For Speed: Payback” was coming, but we finally got the official announcement with a trailer. The game will release on November 10th of this year, and looks to borrow some elements from the “Burnout” series (which is a very welcome change to most) and incorporates a bit of a story into the campaign instead of focusing primarily on racing.

Next up was a new game from the developer of “Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons”. Hazelight studio has followed the cooperative gameplay formula with a prison escape experience called “A Way Out”. The game requires cooperative play and puts an emphasis on split-screen couch gameplay. The game can be played online with another player, but its been made clear that’s not the best way to go with this one. The game releases early 2018, and there’s two trailers: one revealing the game and one showing gameplay.

EA next showed of a teaser for a new intellectual property from Bioware called “Anthem”. Very little was shown here, but more was promised to be revealed at the Microsoft press conference.

Next up, we saw a short video for “NBA Live 18”, which had a heavy emphasis on you being “The One”.

Finally, the moment we were all waiting for: the reveal for “Star Wars Battlefront 2”. The game has three times the content of the original and will include Finn and Captain Phasma as characters in the game. A big highlight shown was the ability to play as Darth Maul. Also, purchasers of the game will receive content associated with “The Last Jedi” for free.
