Earthfall Aims to Fill a Shooter Void

Readers and listeners of The Gaming Outsider likely already know, but I’m no fan of Left 4 Dead. I just don’t dig on arcade-style shooters. But that doesn’t mean I can’t recognize when a game just nails something. Earthfall nails that feeling, and I could see many a person losing dozens of hours to this game.

I point out the comparison to Left 4 Dead so readily, because that’s exactly what Holospark said when I entered into the demo. They know what they’re making, and in a refreshing change of pace, they actually admit to their inspirations. In fact, the game began by the developers asking themselves the exact same question I had when I saw this game, “How has no one done this with aliens yet?”Earthfall

Sci-Fi That Stands Apart

Earthfall has a neat look; sci-fi with colors that pop. The enemy designs stand out the most, and the vicious boss-type aliens have immediately recognizable silhouettes that put fear into you right away. This is not an easy game, nor would you want it to be. These are missions meant to be played over and over again. It even has nifty AI Director technology that made it so replaying the same levels felt fresh.

It doesn’t take long to see what Earthfall is going for. You’ll get it right away. I was quite impressed with the enemy and weapon variety, as it seems like it could make this one a summer staple. Releasing in only a few weeks, this game seems poised to fill a void many a gamer feels during the summer droughts. Co-op and shooter fans take note, this one seems right up your alley.
