3 Minutes to Midnight Scratches That Point-and-Click Itch

Some of us from the earlier generation of gamers look fondly on the point-and-click genre. Nearly everyone has at least dabbled in The Secret of Monkey IslandManiac Mansion, the Sam & Max series, or countless other games. Scarecrow Studios, helmed by Jan Serra, is doing their part to keep the genre alive with their upcoming title, 3 Minutes to Midnight. I’m happy to report that the snapshot I saw of this charming title is exactly what I wanted to see. And I can’t wait to play more.

You play as Betty Anderson, a young lady who is awakened in the middle of the night by a strange sound. She has no idea where she is, what year it is, or who she is. As you help her unravel her own mystery, you’ll also uncover a plot to wipe out humanity. All this with a quirky cast of characters and a solid sense of humor.

Fans of the point-and-click formula should be pleasantly surprised. The old-school mechanics have a much more streamlined control scheme that still feels familiar. The art style is beautiful, and the voice acting is on point for the story being told. Simply put, I can’t wait to get my hands on this game to feel nostalgic while also experiencing a fresh mystery. I will be shocked if Scarecrow Studios doesn’t hit their Kickstarter goal when that campaign officially begins. They’re offering fans of this gameplay exactly what they wanted. Keep an eye out for the release in early 2019.

I had the opportunity to interview the creator of 3 Minutes to Midnight, Jan Serra. You can watch the interview below along with some gameplay footage I was able to shoot while on the show floor. You can also hear me discuss the game further on our “E3 2018 | Day One Recap” podcast episode around the 1:33:05 mark.
