E3 2018Preview

Mega Man X Legacy Collection Is Exactly What We Hoped For

December of 1993 was a glorious time for fans of Mega Man. Capcom bestowed upon us the next generation of the series with the first Mega Man X game. Although it wasn’t the only Mega Man title to grace the Super Nintendo, it changed the formula by allowing our upgraded Blue Bomber to cling to walls to reach new areas. Now after thirty years since the original game, Capcom is bringing back X to the current generation with Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 + 2. Both collections were on the show floor at this year’s E3, and both Zack and I had an opportunity to try both of them.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection

All eight of the original games are divided equally between the two collections. The first contains Mega Man X 1-4, and the second contains Mega Man X 5-8. Both collections offer crisper visuals with a monitor filter option to give the games the classic CRT look we remember. There’s also three difficulty levels, including an Easy mode for beginners. You’ll be able to battle multiple bosses at once in the new multi-boss challenges. The games allow you to choose a loadout before taking on two bosses from various Mega Man X games. Each collection also includes a digital museum of original production art, catalogues of collectible merchandise, and a music player that contains new and old music to enjoy. You can even watch a fully-voice animated short film that gives the back story leading up to the first Mega Man X game.

This looks to be the complete package (and then some), and I can’t wait to get my hands on these collections. I have many fond memories of these games and look forward to enjoying them again while earning some achievements. Both collections will retail for $19.99 digitally, or as a retail combo pack for $39.99.

I had the pleasure of getting hands-on with the first volume of the collection and was able to capture some footage. You can check that out in the video below. Additionally, you can hear Zack and I discuss it on two different podcast episodes during E3 week. Zack played it on our first day and discussed on “E3 2018 | Day One Recap” around the 1:31:30. You can hear me echo his sentiment on “E3 2018 | Day Two Recap” at the 51:32 mark.
