Storm in a Teacup | Switch Review
You know the phrase, “I don’t know what I’m looking for, but I’ll know when I find it”? Well, it is precisely how I feel about the game Storm in a Teacup by Cobra Mobile and Rising Star Games. This enchanting platformer released today, October 25th on the Nintendo Switch. I started playing it a couple days ago, and I finished the main levels already!
You play as Storm, a boy in a magical teacup. He navigates through a dream world created by his brother, Cloud. On his journey, he faces various enemies and obstacles such as storm clouds and saw blades. His goal is to collect all the stickers and sugar cubes in each level. As you complete the main levels, you unlock bonus levels and survival mode. The game also has a challenge mode. There are 40 main levels, 10 bonus levels, 5 challenge levels, and a total of 17 different achievements. You can also customize Storm’s teacup and clothing.
What really hooked me was how easy it was to pick up and start playing. No tutorials are necessary. The controls are simple, yet solid. The levels become more challenging as you progress. However, they never become so frustrating that you want to put the game down. There are checkpoints in all of the levels except in the challenge and survival modes.
The world is colorful and fun. There are three main settings: land, sea, and underground. The enemies have fun facial expressions that really bring them to life. The soundtrack has a charming classical feel. When the gameplay is combined with the soundtrack, it almost makes you feel like you’re dancing through each level.
The only thing that I would really change about this game is to make it a bit more challenging earlier on. I would also add additional levels just because I enjoyed it that much. However, for only $2.99, Storm in a Teacup is exceptionally polished. It is definitely a game that my kids and I will play over and over again.
