Luigi’s Mansion 3 | Switch Review
Embarking on a dream vacation Luigi, Mario, Princess Peach, and three Toads check into a world-class luxury hotel called The Last Resort. Getting checked in and shown to their rooms, by what you definitely can tell are ghosts, had me laughing. Not only is Luigi and company completely oblivious to this, but when he awakes to Princess Peach’s screams, everything changes in the room. From having skulls with candles on them to crows sitting outside the windows, Luigi’s Mansion 3 definitely tops the cake in the series, hands down! It’s clear that Next Level Games spared no expense.
Boo-tastic
Like previously stated, Luigi’s Mansion 3 takes place in a hotel. Luigi receives an invite and is told to invite any and all of his friends. Upon arriving, you check into the hotel with the bellhop. You are then escorted by the hotel manager, Hellen Gravely, to your rooms. Luigi then falls quickly asleep, waking to the sheer sounds of a scream. We then venture out of Luigi’s room and go looking for Mario and the rest of the group. To no surprise, we cannot find him. It is clear now that we are alone in this hotel. Stumbling upon the new and improved Poltergust G-00 inside a car, as well as the Dark-Light Device, it is now time to go find the rest of the gang.
This time around, Next Level Games did not hesitate to bring us one the best Luigi’s Mansion they could. Having played the first two games in the series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Luigi’s Mansion 3. Not only do you get to fight ghosts of all shapes and sizes, but each level has their own look and differing puzzles. It leaves you wanting to get every collectible and fight every level to the top of this crazy hotel. I would venture to say that Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a boo-tastic game for the Nintendo Switch.
ScareScraper and ScreamPark
If you like gaming with family or friends, this game has co-op play. One person plays as Luigi and the other plays as Gooigi. Introduced for the first time, Gooigi is this weird, green and gooey character, invented by Professor E. Gadd. He’s created to help Luigi fight ghosts and get through sections of the hotel that Luigi is not capable of reaching. Now, you don’t have to play co-op to use Gooigi. You can use him in single-player, being able to switch from one to another with ease.
Next Level Games also brought back their beloved ScareScraper from Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. Being able to play online, local, or even by yourself. In Luigi’s Mansion 3 however, you can have up to 8 players; 4 Luigi’s and 4 Gooigi’s. Making for more fun online. I dabbled a little in ScareScraper on this game, and it was fun and exhilarating. Lots to do and lots of fun to be had.
Another feature that is in Luigi’s Mansion 3 is called ScreamPark. Much like Mario Party, you play locally with others and play mini-games. I have yet to try this one, but from what I have seen, it looks amazing with the three different mini-games. One downfall is that it is only local play.
WOW!
Luigi’s Mansion 3 has amazing vibrancy and color definition. Each floor having huge attention to detail, and looking better than the last floor. For example, the 14th floor was the Dance Floor. Lots of crazy colors, and just gorgeous. Another floor was the 10th floor, the Tomb Suites. Where even during the boss battle, I could see every grain of sand was hit with a depth of detail that most games wouldn’t be able to do. Even ghosts and boss ghosts had their own characteristic and color.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 Final Verdict
Wow! Just Wow! Next Level Games outdid themselves with Luigi’s Mansion 3. By far the best in story mode, color, and overall fun. I implore you to get this game and try beating me in ScareScraper. Rent it, borrow it, buy it, I don’t care! Spend some time on this game and enjoy it. I love the Nintendo world, especially anything to do with Mario Bros., and I love the way this game turned out! I bet you will too.
