Atari Reveals “I, Robot” — A Jeff Minter Reimagining of an Arcade Classic
Atari is continuing their publishing focus on giving us either new IPs that resemble the arcade classics of old OR skillfully reimagining them. Jeff Minter’s development studio, Llamasoft, is bringing us an improved version of the arcade classic I, Robot. The original cabinet was an arcade shooter that utilized 3D vector graphics similar to those found in Tempest.
This updated version features similar shooter dynamics but adds some platforming, maze-chase, and arena gameplay to the mix. It’s a colorful kaleidoscope of fun that promises hours of fun for those of us craving an arcade experience from the comfort of our own home.
Want a more relaxing experience? It offers a leisure setting where there are no enemies! I think they really want me to play this game!
“I, Robot will be released in spring 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, and Atari VCS.”
What You Can Expect
- 55 platforming and arena levels
- Unique tube-shooter bonus stages between each level
- Llamasoft’s unique brand of mind-melting visuals
- Procedural music that builds as you excel
- Online leaderboards
“BREAK FREE from your creator. The objective of I, Robot is simple: take control of the ox-headed robot and outwit the all-seeing eye. But, remember, AVOID THE EYE at all costs, or else it’s GAME OVER, MAN. “
My Thoughts
I, Robot looks to scratch an arcade itch whether we’re looking for a nostalgia kick or just a fun experience at home. The fact that it’s available on PC and all consoles, INCLUDING the Atari VCS sweetens the deal. Gamers across preferences will have an opportunity to play and share their stories of accomplishments while watching their name move up the online leaderboard! I’ll be in line for purchase sometime this Spring!
