Supermassive Games brought more excitement for their upcoming title, Directive 8020, when they announced the release date along with a new trailer at the State of Play. Fans of the Supermassive Games catalog like Until Dawn and The Quarry might have already been excited, but those whose eyes perk up with a story in space will be even more intrigued after viewing the new trailer (which can be found below).

Directive 8020 will launch on October 2, 2025 and can be wishlisted now through the following links on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).

What You Can Expect

  • Alien Invasion – Aliens capable of mimicking their prey
  • Brave Recruits
  • New Mechanics including The Flashlight, The Scanner, The Messenger, and The Wedge Tool
  • Directive 8020 will feature actress Lashana Lynch
  • Classic SuperMassive Games gameplay including branching plotlines to impossible choices and split-second QTEs.
Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. Twelve light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small sliver of hope. When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realize they are far from being alone.
Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.
In space, death takes many forms.

My Thoughts

While I haven’t had the opportunity to try Dark Pictures or The Quarry, I enjoyed the gameplay and storytelling found in Until Dawn. I am a sucker for games that take place in space. Combine the two and I’ll be in line for Directive 8020 with excitement! The aliens look terrifying in the trailer. Reminded me a little of The Thing (1982).
