My Thoughts
It’s always exciting to see indie success stories, and Don’t Stop, Girlypop! is a great example. What began as a tenth-grade project between two high school friends, Jane and Rachel, has grown into a full-fledged commercial release. Their passion for both arena shooters and Y2K pop culture is clear in every aspect.
This game fully embraces the late 90s/early 2000s aesthetic, blending the high-speed action of FPS classics like Unreal Tournament or Quake III: Arena with the energy of peak Britney Spears. The bright colors, flashy UI, and over-the-top combat gives it a distinct identity allowing it to stand out from the usual dark and gritty shooters of the time. It’s also refreshing to see a game made by and for a different audience in an industry traditionally dominated by cis-male developers and players. Don’t Stop, Girlypop! proves that arena shooters can be just as stylish and expressive as they are fast and competitive. Whether you’re here for the movement mechanics or the Y2K nostalgia, this game is one to keep an eye on. And yes, this will DEFINITELY make “fetch” happen! Check out the three minute long video below to see what exactly to expect from this title when it launches.
