Narrative RPG Rue Valley Praised by Disco Elysium Creators on Podcast!

Rue Valley from publisher Owlcat Games and development studio Emotion Spark Studio is releasing on PC at a later date. The demo is available on Steam as we speak! Recently, both teams made guest appearances on the Human Can Opener Podcast to discuss Rue Valley‘s development. The development team from Disco Elysium gave the demo a try and provided their stamp of approval. Tomas Becks named Disco Elysium as his #2 game of 2019, so I’d say that’s some pretty impressive kudos from their development team.

What We Can Expect

  • Personality system: Craft your own personality in Rue Valley. You can be a cold-hearted loner who overthinks everything or a melodramatic loudmouth who always trusts their gut instinct.
  • Store Your Memories: Important memories are stored in a graph, unlocking unique interactions around the Rue Valley Motel and new mindsets to help build out the main character.
  • Uncover the Secrets of Rue Valley: An anomaly has trapped the area around the Rue Valley Motel in a time loop. Experiment with the main character’s actions each day until you have enough evidence to solve the mystery.
  • 2D Parallax Art Style: Rue Valley has an instantly recognizable, visually appealing comic book aesthetic inspired by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

My Thoughts

I’m getting some major Ned Ryerson meets Phil Connors vibes (Groundhog Day) from Rue Valley. The time loop genre has been successful in the past, I’m very intrigued to see if Rue Valley is another rewarding entry. The comic-book style graphics and isometric viewpoint during gameplay both captured my attention as well. I’m excited to give this one a shot. I’m hoping some others come along for the ride and give me somebody to talk to about it!
