Ancient Colony Builder Roman Triumph Brings Myth and History to Steam Early Access

The Roman Empire is expanding, this time in Roman Triumph: Survival City Builder, a colony simulation game that blends historical strategy with ancient mythology. Developed by Coreffect Interactive and published by Forklift Interactive, the game is set to launch on Steam Early Access on April 3, 2025, inviting players to construct, defend and govern their own Roman settlement.

A City Fit for The Gods

At its core, Roman Triumph challenges players to balance human prosperity with the demands of the almighty Pantheon. While constructing homes, temples and industrial buildings, players must ensure their citizens remain loyal to the gods, lest they risk divine wrath in the form of ruined crops, lightning strikes or plagues. In addition to managing internal resources and faith, players will also need to prepare for external threats. Barbarian invasions, crime and disease can bring a colony on the brink of collapse and ruin. Not to mention ancient mythical creatures like the Minotaur and Hydra can pose even deadlier threats and challenges. Wall fortifications, ballistas, and archer towers are crucial in ensuring your survival.

My Thoughts

Right away, this game is giving off some serious Age of Empires energy, and I’m all for it. Even with my limited PC gaming history, Age of Empires and SimCity stand out to me personally as major highlights. That said, the resource distribution system looks more like The Colonists than it does Age of Empires. Instead of a communal resource pool that can be spent anywhere like in AoE, it seems the resources must be physically transported to the building sites, adding another layer of strategy and logistics. This means that city layout isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about efficiency, making smart planning just as important as military defense. If Coreffect Interactive strikes the right balance between mythological threats, resource management, and strategy, then Roman Triumph could be a standout title in the realm of city building games.
