HITMAN: World of Assassination Coming to PSVR2 March 27th
IO Interactive has officially announced that Hitman: World of Assassination is coming to PlayStation VR2, offering an enhanced and more immersive way to step into the shoes of Agent 47. First announced during Sony’s September 2024 State of Play, the VR version was originally slated for December of 2024, but IOI has now confirmed it will be ready on March 27th, 2025.
This latest announcement was made during the recent VR Games Showcase, featuring a new trailer highlighting some of the new VR-specific mechanics. As Hitman: World of Assassination consolidates the most recent trilogy of games (beginning with 2016’s Hitman) into one package, VR players will gain access to all locations from Hitman 1, 2 & 3 within a single game. The studio has promised that this new PSVR2 version will deliver the most immersive Hitman VR experience yet, utilizing the hardware’s 4K HDR display, haptic feedback and improved motion controls.
Hello, 47
Unlike the previous PSVR1 version of Hitman 3, this PSVR2 upgrade of the World of Assassination introduces brand-new mechanics designed to take full advantage of the system’s capabilities. Some key features include:
- Dual-Wielding & Full Ambidexterity – Players can now hold and use weapons or tools in both hands, expanding your strategic and tactical possibilities.
- Room Scale Implementation – Move naturally within your environment, interacting with objects in a more intuitive way.
- Enhanced Controls and Interactions – Features such as manual disguise-taking, active reloading, and aiming through a sniper’s scope add a new layer of realism.
- Adaptive Trigger Support – The PSVR2’s Sense controllers provide tactile feedback, making every action – from pulling a trigger to gripping an object – feel more lifelike
ACCESS & UPGRADE DETAILS
As stated earlier, this PSVR2 version of Hitman: World of Assassination will support the full main campaign, allowing players to experience every mission from the Hitman Trilogy, now in stunning VR. For those who already own the standard PS5 edition of the game, an upgrade pack will be available for $9.99 / €9.99 / £8.99, granting access to all the PSVR2 features.
MY THOUGHTS
I’ve been a Hitman fan since the PlayStation 2 days in the mid-2000s, with Hitman: Blood Money still holding the top spot as my favorite in the series. I even enjoyed the film adaptations, especially the 2007 version with Timothy Olyphant, which was one of the first game-to-screen adaptations I can remember that actually stayed true to its source material in terms of story, tone and action… a rarity in those days. While I don’t own a PSVR2 (as I’m typically priced out of high-end peripherals), this version of Hitman: World of Assassination REALLY makes me want one. The idea of playing the game through Agent 47’s eyes sounds like a game changer. If there ever was a reason to invest in PlayStation’s VR ecosystem, this might be it.
