Survive the Depths of Terror in Chasmal Fear, Arriving on Steam April 17

MystiveDev’s upcoming underwater survival horror FPS, Chasmal Fear, is set to launch on Steam on April 17. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game delivers an immersive, nerve-wracking experience, published by Snail Inc. and its indie division, Wandering Wizard.

Players will explore the eerie remains of Magnus Underwater City, a once-thriving sci-fi facility now overrun by terrifying creatures. With limited resources, survival hinges on strategic decisions—engage in combat or evade lurking horrors. Alongside survival, players must solve puzzles, uncover hidden secrets, and piece together the mystery behind the abandoned facility.

With hyper-detailed environments, atmospheric lighting, and a bodycam perspective, Chasmal Fear offers an intense and unpredictable experience where danger lurks in every shadow. Will you escape the abyss, or be consumed by it?

What We Can Expect

  • Limited Resources: Limited player ammo and scarce ammo boxes will encourage players to think strategically and be cautious while traversing the abandoned steel hallways.
  • Immersive Bodycam: Artistic direction that utilizes the perspective of a bodycam footage. Set in the near future, players are also equipped with an AR Interface to help you through the dark hallways of the Magnus Facility.
  • Monster Mutation System: Some monsters will randomly start to mutate when killed into a stronger form. Do not be surprised when you encounter more dangerous foes in an area you thought you cleaned out. Make sure to end them before the mutation starts.
  • Choices Affect Your Playthrough: Your choices will affect your gameplay experience. Choosing to open one way will close other paths to your next goal. Depending on your choice, you can dive guns blazing or sneak stealthily above a swarm of enemies; hide in the shadows or use your environment to squash the monstrosities.
  • Fully Ramdomised Events: Randomised events occurring throughout the game provide replayability from varying sounds, crumbling ceilings, floors, and unexpected scares.
  • Lore & Interaction: Find out clues, pieces of lore, emails, audio logs, and video logs, and find out how Magnus Underwater City came to be, what happened in the meantime, and learn more about the dangers you’re facing.

My Thoughts

If you’re a fan of Dead Space, you’re going to want to watch the trailer for Chasmal Fear and maybe even try out the game. The main difference is that it takes place underwater instead of in space. But, the FPS monster-creature environment is right up a sci-fi/horror fan’s alley. If you’re as excited as I am, reach out! Check out the trailer below!
