Still Wakes The Deep wins three BAFTA Games awards
Still Wakes the Deep, the narrative horror from genre masters The Chinese Room and independent publisher Secret Mode, has been honored at the BAFTA Games Awards 2025 ceremony with three awards, the second-highest number of wins for a single game at this year’s ceremony.
The game and its developer received the awards for New Intellectual Property, Performer in a Leading Role for Alec Newman, and Performer in a Supporting Role for Karen Dunbar. Still Wakes the Deep is the second game from The Chinese Room to receive a BAFTA Games Award, following the success of 2015’s Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture (winner of three).
“Thank you to everyone at The Chinese Room and Secret Mode,” said Alec Newman while accepting the award for Performer in a Leading Role, “your attention to detail is phenomenal, and was an inspiration to me from the moment I first read for Caz McLeary.”
“It was a real labour of love,” said Ed Daly, Studio Head for The Chinese Room while accepting the award for New Intellectual Property, while Karen Dunbar thanked Scotland and said “I am completely overwhelmed” while receiving the award for Performer in a Supporting Role.
Still Wakes the Deep received eight nominations in total at the BAFTA Games Awards 2025, the joint second-highest number of nominations at the ceremony. It was nominated for:
- Artistic Achievement
- Audio Achievement
- British Game
- Narrative
- New IP
- Performer in a Leading Role – Alec Newman
- Performer in a Supporting Role – Karen Dunbar
- Performer in a Supporting Role – Michael Abubakar
My Thoughts
Still Wakes The Deep was in my top 5 games of the year for 2024. It’s wonderful to see the team receive awards for their efforts. Still Wakes The Deep is a five-hour, narrative-driven game that tells an unforgettable story that will stick with you. You can hear the GO crew discuss their time with the game on the June 25th, 2024 episode of The Gaming Outsider Podcast around the 1:30:13 time stamp. It’s absolutely worth your time.
