Fantasy RPG Blades of Fire Gets New Combat Focused Trailer

Earlier this year, we covered Blades of Fire, an upcoming 3D gear-gated fantasy RPG from MercurySteam—the same team behind Metroid Dread, and published by 505Games. This is just a quick update video ahead of its May 22nd launch date shared by the development team. The serves as an early tutorial of sorts, to help players get familiar with the mechanics ahead of launch. The tutorial breaks down core systems like weapon stances, precision parries, gruesome finishers, and timing-based counters, giving us a clearer look at how tactical the moment-to-moment combat will be. It also shows off some of the game’s brutal finishing animations and environmental hazards, hinting at a more deliberate pace compared to your typical action-RPG hack-and-slash, needing the right tool for the right job. If you’re the type of player who likes to master systems rather than just mash buttons, Blades of Fire looks like it’s aiming right at you.

MY THOUGHTS: UPDATE

This one’s seriously looking pretty cool—and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t usually go for fantasy games. I grew up in the late ’80s and early ’90s, when it was all about Terminator, RoboCop, and Jurassic Park. So yeah, I’ve always leaned more toward sci-fi and action than swords and sorcery. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s always bugged me a little when fantasy and sci-fi get lumped together in bookstores and libraries, like they’re the same thing. They’re really not!

Check the video below to see what to expect with combat.
