Demo Launch | Midwest Games and Max Mraz Launch Wild West Souls-Like RPG ‘Tombwater’

Tombwater is a 2D souls-like action RPG developed by Max Mraz of Moth Atlas and published by Midwest Games, a veteran-led studio focused on supporting indie developers. The demo launched in April 2025, and the game is currently in development for PC.

Set in a haunting Wild West town twisted by eldritch horrors, Tombwater invites players to step into the boots of a lone gunslinger on a quest to find their missing friend, Sheriff Elliott Flintwood. What was once a thriving silver mining town is now a shadow of itself—gripped by madness and crawling with terrors that whisper from the depths.

Best known for his previous works Ocean’s Heart and Yarntown (a beloved “demake” of Bloodborne), Mraz blends familiar souls-like mechanics with a distinctive Western-gothic setting. Players will wield guns, blades, spells, charms, and more, customizing their combat style to survive the twisted frontier.

The demo offers a glimpse into Tombwater’s eerie lore, allowing players to explore the game’s opening scenes, experience its combat system, and prepare for the chilling descent that lies ahead.

What We Can Expect

  • The Beginning of the Madness: Play through the origin story and opening scenes of the full game.
  • Learn the Ropes: A quick combat and mechanics tutorial to prepare you for the darkness ahead.
  • Choose Your Weapons: Wield four distinct melee weapons and test five unique ranged weapons.
  • Harness the Darkness: Unleash and test five spells that can give you advantages…but use them too much and suffer the consequences.
  • Face the Terror: Confront a powerful boss fight that will push your skills to the limit.

My Thoughts

It looks a little like the original The Legend of Zelda. It plays like a souls-like. It’s a western theme. Sounds like Zack took over as the president of a gaming company! Tombwater looks like a lot of fun and promises to entertain PC gamers all over. Check out the trailer and let us know if you’re interested!
