God Save Birmingham reveals proper bostin’ new gameplay trailer

God Save Birmingham, developed by Ocean Drive Studio and published by Kakao Games, is an upcoming open-world survival game set in a gruesome, zombie-ridden version of 14th-century Birmingham. Revealed in a new gameplay trailer exclusive to IGN, the game places players in the worn boots of a humble British farmer battling both the Black Plague and an outbreak of the undead — or more specifically, Brummie zombies.

Releasing in 2025 for PC via Steam, God Save Birmingham blends historical fiction with survival horror, tasking players with scavenging for resources, fending off infected townsfolk, and navigating a deadly countryside that’s as scenic as it is sinister. The game’s unique blend of dark humor and medieval grit will be on display at PAX East this May, giving players an early chance to experience the madness before launch.

Don’t forget to add God Save Birmingham to your wishlist — because in this version of the Midlands, survival isn’t guaranteed.

What We Can Expect

  • Physics-Based Survival: Use objects and terrain strategically to fend off zombies and fortify defenses.
  • Authentic Medieval Setting: Explore a detailed 14th-century Birmingham built in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Full Survival Mechanics: Manage hunger, thirst, and fatigue while scavenging and crafting.
  • Early Access Launch: Coming first to Steam, with plans for Xbox and PlayStation later on.

My Thoughts

I love the third-person view, and the medieval time period is a perfect fit; it usually means more melee combat and makeshift weapons, which I enjoy. God Save Birmingham is sure to appeal to fans of the zombie genre. We’ve seen promising updates from Ocean Drive Studio and Kakao Games with Section 13, and this developer/publisher duo seems to be knocking it out of the park based on their recent news and trailers. This latest trailer includes a good chunk of gameplay, so it’s definitely worth checking out!
