Developers Behind ‘Metro’ Unveils New Sci-Fi Shooter: La Quimera
Nuevo Caracas, 2064, a decaying Latin American megacity where rogue AIs stalk the ruins, corporations wage secret wars and reality itself starts to unravel. This is the world of La Quimera, a new sci-fi shooter now available in Early Access on Steam. Behind La Quimera is Reburn, a Ukrainian studio formed by developers who previously worked on acclaimed titles like the Metro series, Last Light, Exodus, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Now operating independently, the team brings years of experience crafting atmospheric shooters to a bold new vision. Working in collaboration with filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives) and writer E.J.A. Warren, La Quimera aims to blend gritty cyberpunk aesthetics, grounded combat design with surreal cinematic storytelling, resulting in a uniquely immersive sci-fi experience.
High-Tech, Low-Life
The game is set in the fictional Latin American megacity of Nuevo Caracas in the year 2064, La Quimera tells the story of a down-on-their-luck private military group caught up in a vast conflict between two warring corporate factions, as mystical anomalies blur the distinction between reality and illusion. Equipped with exosuits provided by a wealthy benefactor, these allow the players to engage in intense first-person combat, utilizing high-tech gadgets and enhanced human strength to outwit their foes.

My Thoughts
I seriously wish I had a good gaming rig to try out all these great PC-only titles we’ve been covering here at The GO. As a massive fan of the cyberpunk genre, this definitely is a game for me. Not to mention it’s got the talents of Danish film director Nicolas Winding Refn writing the story? Couldn’t have asked for a better collaboration of creative storytellers and game designers. Seriously, Drive—starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac—is easily one of my favorite films of the 2010s. I do hope that this gets enough of an audience to one day justify a release to consoles. Check out the trailer below, it’s awesome!
