Cheat your way out of hell in The Devil’s Due – A Poker Roguelike with a western touch

The Devil’s Due, developed by Norwegian studio Games People Play, is an infernal card-dueling roguelite poker game coming to Steam. Revealed in a devilishly engaging trailer at the OTK Games Expo—reportedly costing the team their soul and most of their marketing budget—the game encourages you to bluff, cheat, and swindle your way out of Hell after losing your soul to the Devil in a poker match. The release date is currently listed as mid-2026, but the Steam page is live.

Battles pit you against monsters representing the seven deadly sins, where building poker hands lets you attack, card values defend, and sneaky tricks shift the odds in your favor. Swap in hidden cards, sabotage enemy hands, and boost values—but beware of raising too much suspicion, or you’ll face a brutal counterattack.

Between fights, explore scam-worthy shops, shrines offering unholy upgrades, and minigames that are totally fair—if you know how to cheat. With Monty Python-style animation, tactile UI, and a steady stream of new cheats and relics, The Devil’s Due makes every sleight-of-hand feel sinfully satisfying.

What We Can Expect

  • Poker Duel vs. Bizarre Monsters: Engage in intense one-on-one poker battles against gruesome demonic monsters, each with unique abilities. The strength of your poker hand determines your damage, and the sum of your cards’ values is your defense..
  • Build Your Deck of Dirty Tricks: Unlock and master an ever-expanding arsenal of cheat tricks: conceal and swap cards mid-battle, boost card values, sabotage the enemy’s hand, and more. But every trick raises your foe’s suspicion meter. Overuse it, and they’ll lash out with devastating fury.
  • Unlock Deceptive Trinkets to Enhance Your Bluffing: Death means starting over, but you won’t have to do so empty-handed. Earn permanent upgrades, new cheat cards, powerful relics, and fresh strategies with each run. Adapt your deck and cheat arsenal to tackle deeper levels of Hell and inch closer to your ultimate redemption.
  • Escape the Seven Layers of Hell: At the start of each level of Hell, the Devil lays out tarot cards dictating your path through monster and boss fights, shops, healing shrines, and mini-games. But you were never one to let others determine your path…

My Thoughts

Roguelite? Check. Poker? Check. Humorous animation? Check. Name drop Monty Python in the press release? Check. Clearly defined number of levels? Check. Norwegian studio Games People Play and Pirate PR are making me very happy with this announcement. The Devil’s Due looks like a blast, too! I will admit my surprise to the decision to start building hype for a game that is about a year away from release, but let’s start talking about it! They clearly put some effort into the trailer that they released for the OTK Games Expo. Check it out and see if The Devil’s Due is on your radar, too!
