Garden of Witches Launches Globally on Steam Today!

Garden of Witches, developed and published by Team Tapas, launched in Early Access on Steam on May 25, 2025, after two years of development. This roguelike action game draws comparisons to Hades with its emphasis on replayability and randomized skill trees but distinguishes itself with a whimsical, illustrated storybook aesthetic and a darkly charming cast of witches. Available on PC via Steam, Garden of Witches invites players to explore a mysterious and dreamlike world as Sil, a witch on a yearly quest to rally her fellow witches for a tea party that holds the fate of the Garden itself.

The game’s narrative structure spans five story chapters, now fully accessible with the Early Access launch. As players journey through the Garden, they’ll face off against unique witches—each with their own personalities, combat styles, and motivations—convincing them through battle rather than charm. With each defeat, players grow stronger, experimenting with weapons, relics, and synergies to craft ideal builds. The game emphasizes trial and error, character progression, and immersive storytelling, with hand-drawn visuals that deliver a fairytale-like experience grounded in both beauty and strangeness.

What We Can Expect

  • Replayable combat inspired by roguelike mechanics, with unique boss battles against colorful, complex witches.
  • A fully illustrated storybook world featuring hand-drawn artwork and expressive, original characters.
  • Narrative depth exploring themes of identity, cooperation, and persistence through a quirky, magical lens.
  • Post-launch content expected in late 2025, expanding endgame challenges and refining gameplay based on community feedback.

My Thoughts

I’m a big fan of roguelikes that manage to blend challenging gameplay with strong narrative threads, and Garden of Witches looks like it’s casting just the right kind of spell. The hand-drawn art immediately caught my eye. It’s got that cozy storybook charm, but with just enough weirdness to keep things interesting. If Team Tapas can stick the landing with their post-launch content and keep building on the game’s quirky identity, Garden of Witches might turn out to be one of the more memorable indies of the year.
