Fallen Tear: The Ascension – JRPG-Inspired Metroidvania Showcased in New Trailer

Fallen Tear: The Ascension, the JRPG-inspired, hand-animated sidescrolling Metroidvania from developer Winter Crew and publishers CMD Studios and Holysoft Studios, sets the stage for a grand adventure with a brand-new trailer revealed at the OTK Games Expo. Launching on PC via Steam and consoles in Q1 2026, the game invites players to explore the overgrown and ever-changing wilderness of Raoah, a land teeming with secrets and danger. Players take on the role of Hira, a protagonist in search of his missing memories, whose journey is shaped by mastering Ascension Abilities and forging Fated Bonds—connections that enhance both combat and exploration through a JRPG-inspired party system.

As the story unfolds, Hira must confront vast gods, uncover mysteries, and adapt to a living world that responds to his actions, revealing hidden paths and new challenges. The world of Fallen Tear: The Ascension is brought to life with masterfully hand-drawn biomes and complemented by modern orchestrated melodies from legendary guest composer Motoi Sakuraba. With fluid combat blending traditional JRPG elements and modern action, and a cast of vibrant characters offering both narrative depth and gameplay utility, Fallen Tear: The Ascension promises an emotionally resonant and visually stunning journey when it arrives in Q1 2026 on PC and consoles.

What We Can Expect

  • A reactive, living world with evolving maps and hidden pathways
  • JRPG-style party system with assist mechanics through Fated Bonds
  • Customizable Ascension Abilities to suit different playstyles
  • Hand-drawn visuals and orchestrated music from Motoi Sakuraba

My Thoughts

The map looks enormous, but what really caught my eye is how distinct and detailed each section appears. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, and the hand-animated style gives the whole world a lot of personality. Ever since finishing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, I’ve been itching for another Metroidvania to sink into, and this looks like it could scratch that itch. The skill tree does look a bit intimidating, but it also seems like there’s plenty of flexibility to play how you want. Honestly, I’d love to try out Fallen Tear: The Ascension and just have some fun exploring Raoah! Check out the trailer and see if you agree with my excitement!
