Everything We Saw At Sony’s State of Play | June 4th, 2025
Sony hit us with a last-minute State of Play, and they had a nice selection of games to back it up.
Lumines: Arise
From the team behind Tetris Effect, Lumines: Arise is the latest release in the long-running puzzle/music video game series. It promises to take players to synesthesia heaven when it releases this fall for PS5.
Pragmata
Long in development, many assumed this game would go the way of Capcom’s Deep Down and be shuffled into quietly cancelled purgatory. Not so, it would seem, as Pragmata has showed itself once again. It looks promising, and it’ll almost be surreal to finally play this when it releases for PS5, XXS, and PC next year.
Romeo is a Dead Man
This brand new title was obviously Grasshopper Manufacture from the start. Their trademark style was all over every inch of this trailer. I’ll be stoked to play it in 2026 on PS5, XXS, and PC.
Silent Hill F
Following up on the unanimous success of Silent Hill 2 from last year is going to be quite the task, but Silent Hill F has all the makings of a great survival horror title. This one has been looking great for a while, and it continues to here. Look for this creepy adventure soon, as it releases September 25th for PS5, XXS, and PC.
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement
A surprise to me; I assumed Bloodstained had come and gone. This new title looks every bit as Castlevania as the last, which is good thing since it was a pretty solid successor. It makes its way to PS5, XXS, and PC next year.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger
The more hardcore Digimon RPG titles have a pretty good reputation amongst fans. Hopefully this one won’t let them down when is releases on October 3rd for PS5, XXS, and PC.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
This game leaked so many years ago it’s almost laughable to remember a time we didn’t know this would be coming. Nonetheless, it’s great to finally see it’s releasing shortly. It’ll feature the full War of the Lions PSP version of the game, as well as a more modern and voiced remake. A nice effort to please all fans. You can learn what it’s all about September 30th on either PS4 or PS5.
Baby Steps
I have no words for this weird game. It’s out September 8th for PS5 and PC.
Hirogami
Welcome yourself to a paper crafter world on September 3rd on PS5 and PC. It looks pretty adorable.
Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots
It’s more of PlayStation’s eternally running golf series. Buy it early if you really want to play as Pac-Man. It’s out September 5th for PS5 and Switch.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
Part of the overall Ninja Gaiden rebirth happening this year, Ragebound is a 2D action game from the team behind the beloved Blasphemous series. We can see if it was worth the wait on July 31st for PS5, PS4, XXS, XB1, Switch, and PC.
Cairn
I’m quite fond of The Game Bakers. Both Furi and Haven were exceptional indie titles that left a mark on me. Because of that pedigree, I’m very excited for Cairn‘s upcoming release on November 5th for PS5, XXS, and PC.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection
Keepers of the histories of video games, Digital Eclipse, have turned their eyes towards the Mortal Kombat series. I always love these documentary/collection hybrids, so I’m sure to pick it up when it releases later this year for PS5, PS4, XXS, XB1, Switch, and PC.
Project Defiant Wireless Fight Stick
It’s a wireless fight stick. Sony is making this one in-house, however.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
We’ve seen a lot of this remake, and we saw some more here. We also already knew it was releasing August 28th for PS5, XXS, and PC.
Nioh 3
It always surprises more just how popular the Nioh franchise is, but the sales numbers speak for themselves. Fans are sure to rejoice that Nioh 3 releases early 2026 for PS5.
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadows
My heart broke watching this trailer. I love the Thief series, and I so very badly want a new title. But I also don’t play VR titles or own the appropriate hardware, so what a bummer. 2025 will see the release of this game on PSVR.
Tides of Tomorrow
I’m really not sure if I totally understand what this game is going for. Watch the trailer and see for yourself. Hopefully you can educate me as to what the premise is. Or try it for yourself February 24th, 2026 on PS5, XXS, and PC.
New Planets for Astro Bot
Always great to have an excuse to return to Astro Bot, and we’ll have just that with 5 more levels later this month.
Sea of Remnants
It’s certainly an RPG, but I find it hard to make out what kind of RPG with this trailer. I do enjoy the unique puppetry art style they got going on. One to keep an eye on as it approaches its 2026 release date for PS5 and PC.
Sword of the Sea
From the team behind Abzu comes another artistically interesting meditative adventure. You don’t have to wait too long, as it releases August 19th for PS5 and PC.
FBC: Firebreak
We’ve seen a ton of this game at this point, but I am nonetheless excited for its June 17th release on PS5, XXS, and PC.
Classics Lineup Reveals New Titles
Deus Ex – June 17th
Twisted Metal 2/3 – July 15th
Resident Evil 2/3 – Summer 2025
Myst & Riven – June
007: First Light
A great first showing for IO Interactive’s James Bond game. It looks really great, full of one-liners and high action. I’m disappointed it appears the entire game is an origin story, but I’ll get over that. Nothing will stop me from playing 007: First Light when it releases next year on PS5, XXS, and PC,
Ghost of Yotei
They showed so little of this game I am unsure as to why they showed it at all, Regardless, we are fast approaching its October 2nd release for PS5.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
There are going to be so many people excited for this, but I couldn’t care at all myself. I won’t yuck anyone’s yum, however, so watch the trailer and enjoy. It’s releasing next year for PS5 and PC.
Wrapup
Pretty diverse lineup, and there was a little something for everyone. The PlayStation faithful may be disappointed there wasn’t new tentpole IP entry shown off, but everyone else should be pleased by the showcase.
