Once Upon A Puppet: A Magical, Story-Driven 2.5D Puzzle Adventure – Launches June 25 on the Nintendo Switch

Once Upon a Puppet, the visually stunning 2.5D puzzle-platformer developed by Flatter Than Earth and published by Daedalic Entertainment, officially arrives on the Nintendo Switch on June 25th, with pre-orders available now at 20% off through June 24th. Already available on PC/Steam Deck, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, this imaginative adventure weaves classic platforming into a richly hand-crafted world inspired by stage theater.

Set in a magical and mysterious puppet kingdom, Once Upon a Puppet tells the story of Nieve, an exiled Stagehand, and Drev, a Puppet mysteriously bound to her. Together, they journey through the shadowy Understage, solving dual-character puzzles, manipulating thread-based mechanics, and uncovering the secrets of a long-forgotten realm. With its unique theatrical flair, hand-animated visuals, and heartfelt storytelling, Once Upon a Puppet invites players to a moving tale of connection, discovery, and the power of performance.

What We Can Expect

  • Dual Character Gameplay: Simultaneously control Drev and Nieve, combining their unique skills to navigate a dynamic world.
  • Thread-Based Mechanics: Manipulate environments, interact with props, and uncover secrets using their magical thread.
  • Hand-Crafted Theatrical World: Explore stunning set pieces, moving backdrops, and collectible costumes inspired by classic stage performances.
  • Narrative-Driven Adventure: Rebuild lost theatrical sets and uncover the dark mysteries haunting the Understage.

My Thoughts

I absolutely adored Once Upon a Puppet when I reviewed it on PS5, and I’m thrilled to see it coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game’s charming stage-like presentation, emotional storytelling, and bite-sized puzzle-platforming segments feel tailor-made for a handheld experience. Even better, Once Upon a Puppet boasts one of the most impressive sound designs I’ve encountered in recent years—something that Switch players using headphones are really going to appreciate. This is a perfect match of game and platform. Check out the trailer here!
