Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, the self-proclaimed world’s first “yoyovania,” is now available worldwide! Developed by Pocket Trap and published by PM Studios, this pixel art, top-down action-adventure launched on May 28th, 2025 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Players take on the role of Pippit, a small but determined bat with a cursed yoyo, as he battles rival crime bosses and navigates a colorful metropolis to rescue his kidnapped Auntie and restore his family’s legacy. With fast-paced traversal, over 40 equippable badges, and stylish combat, this unique indie title blends retro vibes with fresh mechanics for a creative spin on the Metroidvania genre. Physical and Collector’s Editions (with a plushie!) are available now, along with a limited vinyl soundtrack featuring music from Leonardo Lima, Henrique Lorenzi, and legendary guest composer Yoko Shimomura.

My Thoughts
The graphics may be simple, but Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo looks like an absolute blast! There’s so much creativity packed into that one cursed yoyo—it’s your weapon, your grappling hook, and your puzzle-solver. It also seems like the game has some challenge baked in, which I always appreciate. And the soundtrack? With names like Leonardo Lima and Yoko Shimomura involved, I’d buy it on vinyl just to have it in my collection. Check out the awesome looking trailer below.
