NetEase Games Reveals the First AAA Single-Player Title – Blood Message
Blood Message is an upcoming cinematic, story-driven action-adventure title from developer 24 Entertainment and publisher NetEase Games. Currently in development for PC and consoles, the game does not yet have a confirmed release date. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and enhanced with the studio’s proprietary tools, Blood Message marks NetEase’s first AAA single-player experience, blending brutal survival combat with a deeply emotional narrative rooted in Eastern storytelling.
Set during the waning years of the Tang Dynasty, players assume the role of a nameless messenger and his young son, swept into the righteous uprising of Dunhuang. Their mission: survive a treacherous 3,000-li (approximately 1,000-mile) journey back to Chang’an, the heart of the empire, to deliver a message that could change the course of their war-torn homeland.
The third-person adventure highlights themes of loyalty, survival, and familial devotion, shining a light on ordinary individuals—not kings or warlords—who leave lasting marks on history through their courage. Blood Message is a tribute to the unsung heroes, inviting players into a harrowing odyssey where the echoes of sacrifice endure far beyond their time.
What We Can Expect
- Narrative-driven gameplay anchored in cinematic storytelling
- Visceral, realistic combat blending stealth and survival mechanics
- A deeply emotional journey exploring themes of family, honor, sacrifice, and cultural identity
- Expansive landscapes inspired by the diverse terrains of East and Central Asia, such as Dunhuang (敦煌)
My Thoughts
Holy smokes, this game looks incredible! I’m genuinely surprised Blood Message didn’t make an appearance during Summer Game Fest—perhaps the heavy use of subtitles kept it off the radar? Either way, a single-player AAA experience set during the final years of the Tang Dynasty is exactly the kind of adventure that calls my name. And when they say AAA, they mean it. The visuals alone are absolutely stunning. Even without a release date, Blood Message is officially on my list of most-anticipated upcoming games.
