In their ongoing efforts to expand and refine the experience, developer Offworld Industries remains committed to keeping Starship Troopers: Extermination fresh and engaging. The newly released 1.6 update introduces several improvements, most notably a new game mode, “Critical Strike.” This is the first new mode added since the full 1.0 launch last October. Additional changes include standard gameplay tweaks, quality-of-life improvements, and a completely revamped bug spawning system, ensuring every mission against the Arachnid menace remains challenging and rewarding.

KEY FEATURES

  • Brand-New Bug Spawning System: This system completely replaces the previous spawning setup, offering improved scalability, predictability, and creative flexibility moving forward.
  • Bug Holes: Volatile hotspots emerging across contested planets in the galaxy. These active nests are a growing threat, and it’ll be up to you and your squad to locate and neutralize them.
  • M55 Nuke Power Weapon: Players get a new nuclear-level weapon at their disposal, the M55. It should provide them with proper support in erasing bugs from existence. The enemy is evolving, and so must we.
  • Overall Upgrades: Bug fixes and other quality of life improvements.

Inspired by the Starship Troopers film series, Extermination remains an action-packed co-op FPS where players join the Deep Space Vanguard to fight the relentless Arachnid threat across hostile planets. The game is available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5and Xbox Series X|S.

Everyone Fights, No One Quits

Every time a new patch drops, I jump into the game to see what’s new. Sure enough, it’s consistently fun, engaging, and still crawling with Arachnid bugs. The multiplayer experience continues to feel polished, and update 1.6 brings some exciting additions. As for the single-player mode, it’s still just a glorified tutorial that hasn’t received any new content since launch. With Casper van Dien already on board as Johnny Rico, his role in the game remains limited and underutilized, leaving fans hoping for a more substantial story experience. While this raises some questions, the game’s multiplayer focus is strong, and I’m eager to see what Offworld Industries has planned next.
