FALLENSTAR Drops in Through the Atmosphere With a Public Playtest on Steam!

FALLENSTAR, a debut effort from developer and publisher NebulaVoid Interactive, is a fast paced roguelike metroidvania built around commitment and steady improvement. Each run helps you master movement, abilities, and the unique character classes you control. As one of Aetherion’s newest agents, you leave the safety of your ship’s hub and explore the hostile planet 347TH2-Terminus. You will face menacing enemies, quick boss encounters, and friendly NPCs. In addition, hundreds of perks encourage you to adapt while your onboard AI, Cora, guides you with priorities that do not always align with your well-being.

The ruined corporate apocalypse setting pushes you deeper into a fractured wasteland. Here, you recover fragments of “Project: Red Sun” and hunt for an infinite energy source. Strategy and reflexes matter in every encounter, and each success or failure sharpens your next attempt. Weapons, abilities, and permanent upgrades help every run. Meanwhile, the pixel art landscapes reveal a world built on exploitation and decay. Every deployment is a risk, and each death strengthens the corporation that sent you.

FALLENSTAR is also a personal milestone for Ben, the founder of NebulaVoid Interactive. It represents his return to a lifelong passion for creating games. His goal is to blend exploration, fast combat, and emotional sci fi storytelling into an experience shaped by curiosity and practice. Players can follow the game for updates, join the Discord for feedback, and wishlist it on Steam to become part of the crew.

What We Can Expect

  • Class Variety – Play as a different agent each run. Refine your expertise with the same class as before or pick a new one to experiment with their unique skills and weapons.
  • Roguelike Metroidvania Loop – Explore procedural maps, unlock new paths, and bring permanent upgrades back to the ship. Permadeath, evolving threats, and unlockable tech trees make every deployment a fresh gamble.
  • Tactical Combat – Fast-paced, unforgiving encounters that reward smart choices, reflexes, and gadget use.
  • Each run is a step toward progression – Every shot fired and gadget used feeds HDC’s research, unlocking tech and upgrades for future deployments.
  • Voices You Can’t Ignore – The Crimson Gate’s crew, 347TH2-Terminus’s inhabitants and Cora, the onboard AI, offer aid, information… or lies. Every word they speak can change how you fight, survive, and uncover the truth.
  • Atmospheric Pixel Worlds – Haunting pixel art environments that reveal a ruined, exploitative corporate apocalypse.
  • May the remains of the fallen shine a light on those who follow! – Recover the bodies of your past failures and bring back their belongings to help you in your progression. Every failed agent leaves behind a second chance.

My Thoughts

I have three words for you: Independent – Roguelike – Metroidvania. The nostalgic look and feel along with the fast paced action on every level means this is a title I really want to sink my teeth into. The promise of steady progression with each run makes it even more appealing. I love when a game rewards practice in a way that feels satisfying and earned. For my fellow PC gamers, I would love to see if this one has Steam deck support, but I would play it either way. Post-edit comment: It does! Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!
