From the Creators of GoldenEye and TimeSplitters Comes Beyond Words

Beyond Words, developed by Mindfuel Games and published by PQube, brings roguelike strategy and word-crafting to PC and consoles in early 2026. The project comes from Steve Ellis and Dr. David Doak, known for GoldenEye 007 and TimeSplitters. A free Steam demo is available now, so players can try the core ideas before launch.

As you play, each run shifts based on your choices. You can adjust tile values, duplicate key letters, remove weak pieces and use modifiers or stickers to build powerful word chains. In addition, optional time-attack boards offer a faster mode for players who want extra pressure.

The team at Mindfuel Games focuses on choice and experimentation throughout the experience. Their goal is to create a game that reacts to player decisions and provides steady surprises. With more than 300 modifiers, special tiles and booster cards, Beyond Words encourages experimentation during every run. It also remains easy to learn thanks to its familiar tile layout. Even so, it offers plenty of depth for high score chasers and long-term puzzle fans. The game launches digitally on Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S in early 2026.

What We Can Expect

  • Tile-based word building with tactical depth

  • Hundreds of modifiers that change each run

  • Optional time-attack boards

  • Strong focus on experimentation and replay value

My Thoughts

“Balatro meets Scrabble” sounds like a lot of fun. Add the pedigree of the developers and I am already on board. Beyond Words looks like a colorful and active word game that mixes vocabulary with light puzzle strategy, which is the perfect combination for players like me. The modifiers, tile upgrades and board-shifting choices seem designed to keep every run fresh. The fast pace, bright presentation and clever word-building tools also make it easy to imagine long sessions where time slips away. If the final release builds on what the demo shows, this could become a new favorite for puzzle and strategy fans. Check out the trailer and let me know if you agree!
