007: First Light Gets Its First Deep Dive In New Dev Diary

In the lead-up to the March 27th 2026 launch of 007: First Light, IO Interactive has released the first episode of “Beyond the Light,” a new developer diary series offering an inside look at the first James Bond game in over 12 years. The acclaimed Hitman studio aims to deliver an experience unlike anything we’ve seen in Bond games before, blending stealth, strategy, and player choice with the bold action and cinematic set-pieces fans expect.

I’ve Been Expecting You, Mr. Bond

At the heart of 007: First Light is a design philosophy IO Interactive calls the Creative Approach, which lets players tackle missions their own way. Whether sneaking through shadows with Spycraft, bluffing and improvising using Instinct, outsmarting enemies with Q Branch Gadgets, or engaging in cinematic combat, every encounter is designed to feel personal and reactive. The game balances this freedom with high-octane set-pieces, making each moment a chance to step into the shoes of a young 007.

The debut episode of “Beyond the Light” features Gameplay Director Andreas Krogh and Senior Level Designer Thomas Pulluello, who pull back the curtain on how IOI brings a young James Bond to life. Viewers get a firsthand look at the tension, style, and precision of the game, seeing how the core pillars let players adapt in ways that reflect Bond’s intelligence, charm, and skill.

While the diary highlights how missions can be approached in multiple ways, it also makes clear that the game’s trademark Bond set-pieces are never far away. 007: First Light promises stealth, strategy, and improvisation at every turn, with bombastic action reserved for moments when the stakes demand it.

My Thoughts

I’ve been sold on this game since the announcement teaser dropped over four years ago, back when it was still called Project 007. As the Gaming Outsider’s go-to correspondent for all things Bond, covering this first of what will surely be many dev diaries ahead of the March 2026 launch was a no-brainer.
