Flame-Wielding Metroidvania Nocturnal 2 Demo Launches January 27 on Steam
Indie developer Sunnyside Games has announced that a playable demo for Nocturnal 2 will arrive on January 27 on Steam. Published by Sunnyside Games, the demo includes over one hour of gameplay. Players can explore an early area, unlock new abilities, and engage with the combat system. The demo also introduces pieces of the game’s lore. It has been carefully designed to avoid major story or structural spoilers before launch.
Nocturnal 2 is an atmospheric Metroidvania where players step into the role of Ardeshir, bearer of the Enduring Flame. His journey takes him through the shadowed depths and towering heights of the forgotten city of Ytash. He seeks to lift the curse that has consumed his homeland. The full game is planned to launch later this year on Nintendo Switch and Steam.
What We Can Expect
● Explore an interconnected city plunged into obscurity and unlock new routes as you return with fresh abilities.
● Immerse yourself in an atmospheric hand drawn game inspired by Persian architecture.
● Control a fast, flexible character built for smooth, expressive movement and combat.
● Uncover secret endings that expand the island’s mysteries.
● Enjoy a minimalist experience, shaped by its atmosphere and the sense of discovery.
My Thoughts
I do not even mind that I never played Nocturnal, the original. The sequel looks intense, colorful, energetic, and clearly made with passion. Since Prince of Persia: Lost Crows (a Gear Gated Game) was my Game of the Year in 2024, I figure Nocturnal 2 is going to be right up my alley. I have already wishlisted it on Steam so I can check out the demo in a couple of weeks. If the trailer below looks like a good time to you, I recommend doing the same.
