Plummet Face First Into the Arcade-Inspired Action of Freefall ’95

Indie developer S-Bend Games has announced Freefall ‘95, its debut title and a fast-falling, ‘90s-inspired arcade experience. The game is built around style, speed, and high-risk combos. Players take on the role of the sole survivor of a mid-air disaster, plummeting toward Earth through varied environments. These range from clear skies to stormy mountains and erupting volcanoes. A playable demo arrives on Steam January 29th, offering access to the first two levels. The full version is expected to arrive in March.

During each fall, players perform tricks, grab airborne items, and chain massive combos. They must also dodge hazards like flaming debris and shattered aircraft parts. Every hit risks ending the run, but death simply resets the loop. You wake back up on the plane and try again. New levels introduce fresh obstacles and environmental threats. These encourage smooth, clean runs and score chasing. Between falls, players can explore the plane and interact with fellow passengers. You can accept quests and slowly uncover the mystery behind the recurring disaster.

Progression unlocks gadgets and abilities that change how each run plays. Items like the Electromagnet, Repulsor, and Turbo Gloves help preserve combos and control space. They also open the door to new strategies. Upgrades purchased with earned coins add even more possibilities. As new levels and abilities appear, the narrative deepens. It teases the truth behind the endless fall and questions whether escaping it is really the goal.

What We Can Expect

  • 5 varied levels, each with unique special items, landing locations and hazards to look out for.

My Thoughts

Freefall ‘95 nails its nostalgic appeal with a 16 bit inspired presentation that feels ripped from a classic arcade era. The exaggerated blood splatter adds some gory fun and dark humor, even though death only comes once you hit the ground. That contrast keeps each run lively and memorable.

The real surprise is the depth hiding beneath the retro look. Combos, quick retries, power ups, and side quests all work together to give the game real staying power. It ends up feeling far more robust and rewarding than its simple visual style first suggests. Check out the game trailer below!
