WheelMates, Co-Op Adventure with RC Cars, Revealed, Coming to PC and Console

Developer FireVolt has announced WheelMates, a cooperative adventure where two players drive tiny RC cars through the house of an eccentric scientist. This title is revving up for a release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026. Players must pilot a pair of RC cars and coordinate with one another to discover the secrets of a strange house and the whereabouts of its owner. The experience emphasizes cooperation over competition, offering shared problem solving at a preferred pace with no timers or pressure. A first playtest is scheduled for February on Steam to give players an early look at the gameplay.

The game features both online and split-screen co-op as players navigate rooms filled with mechanical puzzles and hidden paths. These small cars use experimental equipment like jump boosters, grappling hooks, and magnet wheels to reach new heights and manipulate objects. Inspired by the Metroidvania genre, WheelMates encourages players to backtrack through the mansion to access previously unreachable locales. By combining the fun of driving through household environments with various power-ups, the team at FireVolt aims to deliver a fresh take on the classic RC game genre.

What We Can Expect

  • Cooperative Exploration: Coordinate with a partner in online or split-screen play to solve mysteries and navigate a professor’s strange house without the pressure of timers.

  • Experimental RC Gadgets: Utilize unique tools such as magnet wheels, grappling hooks, and jump boosters to overcome obstacles and discover hidden paths.

  • Metroidvania Structure: Progress through a mansion filled with mechanical puzzles and secrets that require backtracking as you unlock new ways to interact with the environment.

My Thoughts

The trailer for WheelMates looks like an absolute blast. RC cars have always been a favorite pastime of mine, so seeing them turned into the heroes of a cooperative adventure is right up my alley. There is something inherently fun about the physics of remote-controlled movement, and the way these cars interact with a giant household environment looks incredibly creative.

I also know for a fact that Scott and the rest of The Gaming Outsider crew will be keeping a close eye on this one. They are massive fans of co-op experiences, especially after the great time they spent with Split Fiction. They are always on the lookout for the next great game that prioritizes shared fun, and WheelMates seems like it could be exactly what they are searching for. I am definitely looking forward to seeing how these mechanical puzzles play out when you have a partner behind the other controller.
