Proteus Interactive: Meet the New and Disruptive Indie Games Publishing Label

Proteus Interactive has launched as a new indie publishing label focused on a developer-first model. Founded by industry veterans, the company aims to create a more sustainable market for independent creators. They argue that great gameplay should not be overshadowed by massive marketing budgets. The label intends to turn indie development from a “lucky shot” into a stable career.

Their initial 2026 lineup features five distinct titles on Steam. These include the deck-building adventure Slot or Not and the liminal forest mission game Mycelium: The Silent Contract. The catalog also features the anti-gravity racer Dart Racer and the fast-paced roguelite Blast Head. Rounding out the group is Roll The Bones, a magic-dice dungeon crawler. Proteus Interactive invites players and reviewers to help bring these “under-the-radar” gems into the spotlight.

Slot or Not – Mako Games

Slot or Not is a deck-building turn-based slot machine battling adventure. Fight evil fruits aside your battle buddy slot machine to save your village. Spin your destiny and grab the precious loot in a fast paced colorful adventure.

The game takes part in the ongoing “Flash Vibes” event on Steam with a shiny new DEMO that will also be available to the players after the event is over.

Mycelium – Po Kolu

Go alone or with other contractors on time-limited missions set in a dark and liminal procedurally generated forest. Use your wits and the equipment provided to find your bearings, get Mycelium, complete objectives, and extract alive. But be wary – you are being watched.

Players who enjoy Remedy’s Control and Alan Wake universe can discover its echoes within Mycelium by participating in the ongoing playtest.

Dart  Racer – Lubsoft

Dart Racer is an arcade racing game set in a distant future where anti-grav tech is the new hotness! Pick your vehicle, upgrade it, and master its controls. Take part in the Galaxy Cup or learn rollercoaster-like tracks in quick race mode. The game is also available in VR mode.

This passionate love letter to WipeOut and Pod Racer is seeking playtesters, and all Steam users can sign up to participate.

Blast Head – Basement Rift

Blast Head is a fast-paced action roguelite/bullet heaven with absurd weapons, powerful runes, and non-linear weapon skill trees. Dive into 10–30 minute runs, discover wild synergies, and unleash chaos across alien arenas.

Bullet-heaven enjoyers can see what happens when planning and loadout is as much important in gameplay as luck and upgrades – they just need to sign up to participate in the ongoing playtest!

Roll the Bones – Shrimp Industries

Select spell-dice for your loadout, roll them, and wreak absolute havoc! In this fast-paced roguelite you will fight through dungeons using magic dice and chaotic spells. Let’s roll some bones!

Fans of Solo Leveling will feel right at home, taking on challenges of dungeon-gates. To start shaking the dice they can access the game’s demo or – for a deeper experience – sign up for the upcoming playtest.

My Thoughts

I am a huge advocate for the indie spirit in gaming. There is something special about how fresh ideas from tiny teams can catch us by surprise. Often, these unique ideas and fresh takes on classic genres become the biggest hits of the year. I find myself constantly drawn to smaller-scale independent games.

Because my free time is often limited, these focused experiences are perfect for my schedule. I love supporting developers who are trying to disrupt the status quo. It is vital that we lend our voices to these projects so they don’t get lost in the noise of AAA marketing. Seeing a new label like Proteus Interactive prioritize sustainability for creators is exactly what the industry needs right now!
