Limited Run Games Levels Up its Commitment to a Fan-First Strategy in 2026

Limited Run Games (LRG) has announced a significant shift in company philosophy, centering on a “fan-first” approach to its physical media publishing. While their core mission of game preservation remains unchanged, the company is committing to a higher standard of communication and a more consistent experience for its customers. Fans can expect a regular cadence of blog posts, social media updates, and emails designed to provide better transparency regarding delivery times and product-specific details.

Leadership Transition and Stewardship

After a decade of growth and the preservation of over 1,000 titles, LRG is seeing a change in leadership. The company has announced the departure of President Josh Fairhurst and the transition of business operations to a cooperative leadership model. Moving forward, Nic Ashford (Chief Operating Officer) will oversee operations and fulfillment, while Brendan Madigan (Chief Financial Officer) will manage business performance and partner support. Additionally, Chris Pirrotta joins the leadership team as VP of Marketing & Fan Experience to steer community-focused initiatives.

Improving Quality and Reliability

The new leadership team is prioritizing the “fundamentals” of the business: product quality, reliable fulfillment, and proactive communication. Nic Ashford noted that the company is tightening its production oversight and Quality Control standards to ensure faster escalation when issues arise. The goal is for every fan to feel confident in the LRG brand by providing clearer milestones and more visible progress as projects move from announcement to the customer’s doorstep.

Next Steps for Transparency

In the coming weeks, LRG will roll out specific improvements to make the purchasing experience more predictable. As part of this “reset,” the company is currently reviewing every in-progress project against a higher quality and communication bar. This review may result in updated timelines for some releases; however, LRG has pledged to communicate these changes directly, providing specific reasons for any moves and updated target windows so fans can accurately track their orders.

My Thoughts

I’ve always been a fan of the games Limited Run Games brings to market, though I realized recently that I haven’t actually entered the physical LRG fray myself. I’ve purchased their titles digitally (like Double Switch) and had a largely positive experience with the software. That being said, I’ve certainly heard the negatives.

Our own CB has mentioned several times how disappointed he’s been with their physical fulfillment process. While many fans waited… and waited for their copies to arrive, they would receive zero status updates. To make matters worse, a digital version of that same game would sometimes pop up on storefronts at a significant discount while the physical backers were still empty handed.

For video game collectors and gamers who prefer physical media, this news of a fan-first pivot is welcome, but LRG still has a lot to prove. I’m willing to give them a chance to earn that trust back. Maybe they’ll finally release Sewer Shark! (I am officially willing that into existence.)
