SEGA and RGG Studio Announce Virtua Fighter Crossroads for 2027

Following its appearance at Summer Game Fest, SEGA of America and developer RGG Studio gave viewers an extended look into Virtua Fighter Crossroads. This all-new installment in the iconic fighting game series is planned to launch in 2027. The title will bring its high-stakes martial arts action to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Consequently, players across all major platforms can experience the franchise’s bold new direction at the same time. Furthermore, the developers unveiled fresh details regarding a narrative-driven story mode and a dynamic new battle system.

The game breaks from traditional competitive fighting titles by delivering a narrative-driven action-adventure. Centered on the theme of “crossroads,” players will experience an omnibus narrative through the eyes of four different protagonists. Along the way, they can freely explore Vilasapara, a living island city known as the “City of Martial Arts.” Meanwhile, players will engage in intense combat situations that feature multi-opponent brawls and boss encounters. As a result, story and combat seamlessly intertwine to shape the ultimate destiny of the city.

The gripping narrative is crafted by a prominent team of acclaimed writers from diverse gaming and film backgrounds. The talent lineup includes World Building Supervisor David Hayter and Lead Writer Brad Kane. Additionally, the team features Scenario Director Tsuyoshi Furuta and Scenario Writer Shinji Yamamoto. Together, they have brought the district-filled island of Vilasapara to life. Finally, this deep story mode will live alongside a robust Versus mode featuring a full suite of local and online options.

What We Can Expect

  • Narrative-Driven Action: An omnibus story focusing on four distinct protagonists whose destinies intersect in a city where choices forge alliances.

  • Evolution of Combat: Intense multi-opponent brawls and boss fights that live alongside a robust local and online Versus mode.

  • All-Star Writing Team: A gripping plot crafted by prominent talent behind Ghost of Tsushima, the Like a Dragon series, and Persona 5 Royal.

My Thoughts

I was so pleasantly surprised when I watched the trailer. I discovered Virtua Fighter Crossroads isn’t just a standard fighting game. It actually features a full story mode. Seeing that “all-star writing team” attached to the project is enough to get any gamer’s excitement level up. On top of that, the graphics are absolutely beautiful. It looks like RGG Studio is really trying to add genuine depth to the characters as well. This looks like the exact kind of fighting game I can truly enjoy. I can lose myself in a great narrative without constantly getting decimated by online try-hards.
