E3 2019

Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct Live Stream Recap

Nintendo went last, but they certainly weren’t least. Plenty of games were shown off, and there were a couple announcements that will drive fans crazy. Mum’s the word on Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 yet again, but there’s still a lot to dig into here.

Dragon Quest XI Hero a Playable Character in Smash

Looks like another sword-based fighter is on their way to Smash Bros. The cool twist was that a few other Dragon Quest protagonists are also available as Echo Fighters. Surely the hardcore players are going to love digging into this.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

It seems as though we’ve been seeing stuff on this game forever, but yet again Luigi’s Mansion 3 showed up with new footage. They introduced a neat-looking “Scarescraper Mode,” which seems to be some sort of arcade mode.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance – Tactics

Definitely didn’t see this one coming. Influenced by the upcoming Netflix revival, this tactics RPG seems pretty hardcore. An unexpected surprise, but a welcome one.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake

Link’s Awakening has always been one of my favorite Zelda games, so I’m waiting on this one with bated breath. The art style is a little off-putting to me, but I’ll deal with it to play a fresh take on this game. There’s so much charm and heart in the original, and it seems to be peeking through here.

Trials of Mana Collection of Mana

We saw the Secret of Mana remake release a couple years ago, so it was only a matter of time until Trials of Mana got one as well. That wasn’t the only surprise, however. The original classic versions of both games are available right now as a collection on Nintendo Switch.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition

The graphical downgrade is obvious, but it’s still insane that The Witcher 3 is going to playable anywhere you go. Frankly, I’m surprised the Switch can even run a game of this scale and magnitude. An impressive feat, and quite a treat for the Nintendo faithful.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

I haven’t played a Fire Emblem in over a decade, but that’s about to change. Three Houses looks like a lot of fun. The story seems complex, the combat looks dense, and the art is striking.

Resident Evil 5Resident Evil 6

Sure, why not? Capcom loves having its games available everywhere. I’m surprised this wasn’t already on the system. Brief reminder to stay far, far away from Resident Evil 6.

No More Heroes III

Travis Touchdown has returned! No More Heroes is a fun franchise, and it’s always welcome to see Suda51 bring his brand of weird to video games.

Contra: Rogue CorpsContra Collection

So much Contra. In addition to a brand new game, Konami is bringing a collection of 10 games to the Switch. That’s a whole lot of Konami codes to be entered.

Daemon X Machina

This mech combat game looks both fast and frantic. There’s a constant energy present in the gameplay that makes it seem like you’ll constantly be on your toes.

Panzer Dragoon

Pretty cool to see the return of such a beloved cult franchise. The Panzer Dragoon name really meant something back in the day, and this could pave the way for a future for the franchise. Definitely excited about this one.

Astral Chain

This is a game that had me on the edge of my seat. It’s no secret how much I adore PlatinumGames, and this game brings their house style to the forefront. Such intriguing visuals combine with kinetic combat, and it looks positively glorious.

Empire of Sin

John Romero still makes video games as it turns out, and this appears to be a Mafia simulator. It’s got a neat enough style, but I want to see more before I get too excited.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

This game keeps looking cooler and cooler. It’s digging deep in the Marvel Comics lore and leaving no stone unturned. There’s even Fantastic Four content coming via the newly-announced expansion pass.

Cadence of Hyrule

Crypt of the Necrodancer in Hyrule? Sign me up. This game is releasing SOON, too. It’s so awesome that Nintendo is letting an indie developer play with their toys. I hope this is a sign of the future to come.

Animal Crossing: New Discovery

The game everyone was waiting for. A delay was announced alongside this trailer, which explains the relative lack of gameplay. It looks true enough to the franchise, and that’s exactly what fans want.

Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

People were almost crying around us when this was announced. Guess this means a lot to a lot of people. It speaks to the ongoing relationship Microsoft and Nintendo are building. It’s a great things for fans as well, with plenty of nostalgia bait included in the DLC.

Breath of the Wild Sequel

Breath of the Wild was a phenomenal game, there’s no question. But it also had what I consider the worst ending to any video game ever. Luckily, a sequel is coming along to alleviate all my concerns. The idea of Link and Zelda traveling alongside one another on an adventure almost makes me tear up. I can’t wait for this one.

All in all, it’s safe to say Nintendo had a hell of a showing at E3 2019. Unexpected surprises, updates fans have been wanting, and even Banjo-Kazooie. The future looks bright for the company, and this Switch momentum is doing them wonders.
