Comanche | PC Early Access Preview

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever want to fly a helicopter. I used to ride in one via the Army all the time, so I knew what it took, but didn’t want to pursue it. I would get nervous when the pilot would take off and hover just 3 feet off the ground. I almost passed out when they positioned the helicopter sideways to make it feel like it was zero-gravity in the passenger area. Scary, yet adrenaline pumping for sure! Anyway, I still took a shot at playing Comanche.

Comanche

Drone-tastic

In Comanche, you pilot a…well, a comanche helicopter. As the pilot, it is your mission to bring back what has been stolen from your HQ. How are you gonna do that? Well, that’s easy. Shoot everyone who comes at you and help your comrades. Shooting down other helicopters, boats, or even mines. You even get to fly a tiny drone around and press buttons to open doors. Weird I know, because I’m still trying to figure out where they keep that drone on the Comanche.

Flying a huge helicopter comes with some perks. Being able to change the color or drone style is nice. However, in Early Access: Mission 1 of Comanche, you aren’t able to do so. Unless I didn’t do something right?! Asking for a friend.

Controlling the Beast

Controls are a little bit tough for the most part, considering it doesn’t really tell you what controls what right away. Playing with a controller is a lot harder, so I recommend the keyboard. Not saying you shouldn’t give it a try, but start with the basic mouse/keyboard combo. If you have played Flight Simulator before or something similar, then this game will be easy for you.

Dipping the nose slightly gets you to move forward, and dipping it too hard will make you run into everything. Which I did quite a bit. As well taking a swim into the ocean. My only thought afterwards was that I hoped it wouldn’t rain.

Comanche

Another aspect of flying is being able to move in between cliffs with ease, as well as putting what you’re shooting in your line of sight. In game, the only way you see is through the cockpit. Shooting down other helicopters is easy because you can move fluently while looking at them. However, the hardest things to shoot at are the boats. While tilting the nose of the plane to fly forward, you have to tilt it just enough to shoot them. If you tilt too much, you go straight down to the aforementioned abyss.

Good luck shooting the enemy down while flying backwards!

Flying Death Machine

Have you ever wanted to shoot boats from a flying death machine? Have you ever wanted to fly through small tunnels in a machine propelled with a few blades and a small engine? What about destroying drones with a drone, attached with a .50 CAL machine gun? Yeah, neither have I, except for maybe the drone part. Don’t let that sway you from trying this game though. Comanche from Nukklear is one for the books. Realistic, high-flying fun!

This preview is based on a PC Early Access copy of Comanche provided by Evolve PR for coverage purposes. You can pick up the  game via Early Access on Steam for $19.99.
