E3 2021

Tower Rush | PC Preview

Well Steam gamers, I have an interesting new game coming for you, Tower Rush. It’s a MOBA- inspired tower defense game with lane running elements built into it. Tower Rush is the definition of don’t “judge a book by it’s cover” and never underestimating something. So let’s charge headlong into the fray and breakdown why this upcoming title could be for you.

Tower Rush

First Time into Battle

First and foremost, Tower Rush was developed by its sole developer at Megaglope Studios. What’s even more amazing is that he started developing the game and learning to code less than a year ago. When we were shown the demo during E3, the game looked to be a simple “fire and forget” tower defense game. You as the player can hire units to charge forward into the fray and dominate your enemies in each level. Each of the units has abilities that compliment or support others along your quest.

The Meat

Like most tower defense games, the premise of each level is to knock down their tower and progress to the next level. Tower Rush throws a few speed bumps in your way. First, the enemies become stronger and grow in number as the level continues on, so you must work quickly. Once you do reach the enemies tower, it unleashes a large threat to challenge you and push you back. You have a trick up your sleeve, however, with a champion of your own. The gameplay is addicting, and there are a wide variety of different units and champions to unlock as well as upgrade.

I also loved the addition of being able to grow your army and income as each level progresses. The longer we sat down with the demo (and the developer), more and more just seemed to pour out of Tower Rush. A few times I felt like the game had nothing more to show, but I was wildly surprised as more and more unveiled itself. Luckily, when the full game is released there will be a tutorial mode to help gain a better grasp of it all.

Simple is Sometimes Better

Tower Rush also provides a fun art style inspired by fantasy settings from artist Phuc Tran. As I played through the demo, it was aesthetically pleasing and fun to sit back and watch as well. Also a quick note, there is not much of a story/narrative but for a game like Tower Rush, but I don’t really think it would be needed.

Vital Signs

There is so much to unpack within the game other than the standard game. There is also an area that will unlock as you level-up, which provides a horde-like experience. So be prepared to battle across 35 unique stages in seven different biomes as you unlock Steam achievements, level up your characters, and rise up the leaderboards to glory. Tower Rush’s developer even states he wants to put the power back in the player’s hand. Currently the game is releasing on Steam only, but there is the possibility of it coming to other platforms down the road. So keep your eye on the horizon for Tower Rush in Q2 of 2022.

This preview is based on a PC demo of Tower Rush provided by Freedom Games for coverage purposes. It is slated for Q2 of 2022 on PC with the possibility of future platforms as well.
