EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid Wireless Gaming Earbuds | Hardware Review

Both Chris and I have recently become fans of audio products manufactured by EPOS. Back in January, we reviewed the H3 Hybrid and H6 Pro gaming headsets. Chris highlighted both the durability and sound quality of both products and said he has no desire to go back to his older hardware. I recently had the opportunity to try out another product by the same company, but this time it’s not a headset. The GTW 270 Hybrid Wireless Gaming Earbuds offer an incredible audio experience without a bulky headset. The latest version of earbuds offer even more versatility than its predecessor, as EPOS has listened to its audience’s desires and made the necessary updates. This is an incredible product I didn’t know I wanted, and now I can’t live without it.

Built For Comfort AND Speed

I’ll go ahead and admit it: I’m an Apple user. I use an iPhone, a MacBook, and (more aligned with this discussion) Airpods. I fell in love with their ease of use and unobtrusive design that felt very comfortable. Not to sound hyperbolic, but the GTW 270 model from EPOS blow those things out of the water. Not only are they even more comfortable, but they stay in my ears much better. I never have to worry about them falling out of my ears, which is a godsend. Although this review is supposed to be for gaming, I can actually use these when I’m exercising. I was never able to do so with my Airpods, because as soon as I ran or lay on my back, they would inevitably fall out. These stay locked in my ear regardless of any movement I make with my body.

Since you probably won’t doing any bench presses while gaming, let’s focus on the quality of the sound. I’ve never experienced surround sound with earbuds, so this was an ear-opening experience for me. Sure, I’ve had success with headsets, but the fact that I can enjoy incredible audio without a large piece of hardware on my head is incredible. These buds are shaped in such a way that “seal” in the sound. So when I’m in the zone playing a game, I don’t feel distracted by outside noise like I do with other earbuds.

With that said, you do have the option of wearing only one of the earbuds, if need be. When I spoke about the GTW 270 ear buds on Episode 422 of the podcast (time stamp – 1:09:54), I misspoke about this. I said that this functionality was not present, because I was trying to use only the left earbud. In actuality, you can wear only the right earbud, if you’d like. That allows you to still be able to hear outside noise, if you’re not looking to drown everything out.

Options, Options, Options

Whether you’re playing on PC, console, or your phone, the GTW 270 earbuds pair perfectly via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use them on Xbox without some workarounds, but that’s not any fault of EPOS.

Much like other earbuds, these come with a charging case that also protects the hardware. It’s very sleek and slips in my pocket quite comfortably. There’s even a series of lights on the front that let you know how much charge the case has left. This is something sorely lacking on my first generation Airpods, and it’s a very welcome change.

On top of that, this model comes with a new feature: a USB-C wireless dongle that allows you to connect with chat features on your platform of choice. So not only do these earbuds offer great sound, but you can also chat with your friends while using them. You’ll have to download a firmware update in order to do so, but it’s not difficult at all and only takes a few minutes. The added benefit is more than worth the effort. The only issue I have is that there is no room to store this piece in the case. But that’s only a minor inconvenience.

EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid Wireless Earbuds – Final Verdict

I’ve found my new favorite way to listen to my games when I’m not using my external stereo system at home. The sound is shockingly good, and I love that I can also use them as my daily use earbuds with my phone. I’ve never worn a set as comfortable as these, either, which alone make them worth the price. Even if you’re not a fan of using earbuds for gaming, consider checking out EPOS’ headsets instead. I’m officially sold on this line of products, and can’t recommend them enough.
