Strong Monkey Games Announces Horror Roguelike Deckbuilder “Dead Spin”
Strong Monkey Games revealed DEAD SPIN today. This horror roguelike deckbuilder throws players into deadly slot-machine duels against lunatic gamblers. The game is coming to PC via Steam, and an open Steam Playtest is planned.
DEAD SPIN blends slot-machine mechanics with deckbuilding strategy. You will shape your deck with symbols, chips, and coins while using consumable trinkets to stack effects. The goal is to build massive scores and stay ahead of opponents before a bad spin brings punishment. Each run features over 8 unique opponents, each with their own deck and skills. You must adapt your build around random items. Losing means starting over, while winning unlocks new items for future runs. The visual style draws from late 90s and early 00s horror, blending a grimy VHS atmosphere with dark, grotesque humor.

My Thoughts
They’re saying words of intrigue: Horror, Roguelite, Lunatic, Creepy. While deckbuilders are hit and miss for me, the use of the other four words are enough to perk up my eyebrows. And, since it’s a roguelite, it has that addictive quality that grabbed the lovers of Balatro and CloverPit. This mix of high-stakes gambling and dark atmosphere seems like the perfect way to spend a few hours testing my luck.
