Hyperkin Revives the SupaBoy Retro Console With New Colors and European Debut
Hyperkin is bringing back the retro hardware love this fall with two brand-new colors for its popular SupaBoy portable retro gaming console. Joining the lineup are Crimson and Prime. Both feature gorgeous translucent shells that pay homage to classic hardware palettes.
Additionally, this release marks the very first time the SupaBoy will be officially available in Europe. The console lets players pop in their original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges with zero emulation and zero downloads. Region lockouts don’t exist offering true portable retro gaming with up to ten hours of battery life and seamless TV hookup.
What We Can Expect
-
Play Original Cartridges: Enjoy native compatibility with your physical Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges without emulation or downloads.
-
Stunning New Colors: Choose between the translucent Crimson edition and the pastel-palette SupaBoy Prime.
-
European Debut: For the very first time, the SupaBoy is expanding its reach with simultaneous shipping across Europe this fall.
-
Play on the Go or the Big Screen: Use the crisp 4.3 inch IPS screen for portable gaming, or hook it up to a standard TV with two integrated controller ports for couch co-op.
My Thoughts
I want one! Since I can still find SNES cartridges at local video game stores, I would be compelled to seek out copies of my favorites like Uniracers or Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Meanwhile, the cozy handheld design offers full connectivity to a TV screen, letting you seamlessly switch from couch play to portable sessions. With a device like this, I could pretend I was 17 again and reliving the golden era of 16-bit gaming. However, I don’t think I could find an affordable copy of Chrono Trigger.
Here is the original launch trailer from many years ago which captures my dreams perfectly.
