Retro Dungeon Crawling Done Right
If you are looking for a turn-based roguelike that gets straight to the heart of why these games are so much fun, you found the right one. It captures the tight, classic isometric feel of the originals while melding it perfectly onto modern platforms.
Respectful of Your Time
A full run takes only around 30-40 minutes (unless you make mistakes like I do, then it’s about 10). This makes it easy to play a quick game when you have some down time. Jump in, learn something new, have a few minutes of fun and then you can move on to other things if you need to. No need to plan a few hours just to accomplish something.
Clean Retro Aesthetic
The pixel art and the Lovecraftian vibe are a great balance of charm and atmospheric dungeon crawling. The game feels classic, clean and crisp. Colors are bright and vibrant. The sound rounds out the package, the music in the dungeons is rather enjoyable. The sounds of combat give it some weight when you land a blow.
Amazing Replay Value
Everytime you play the floors are all procedurally generated. Potions are all different which adds an element of risk. Being turn-based means you have time to think about your decisions, giving them a little more weight than just running for your life hoping to live to the next level. This feels right at home on a desktop, laptop or a handheld device. There is so much game here that you will be returning for just one more run time and time again.
Final Verdict
This is a game that will be on your play list for a long time to come. From its delightful graphics and sound to the incredible replay value that keeps the game fresh this is one for the long haul. No steep system specs means you could load this up on a low spec laptop and have a fantastic travel game.
