Coromon |PC Preview

One franchise I have played for as long as I can remember is the Pokemon series. I love the series, because it has always held such a nostalgic feel for me and brings back my childhood in all the best ways. Well, the developers at TRAGsoft must also feel the same way, especially with their new game Coromon. So strap on your exploring shoes, and let’s take a look on why this could be a game for you to search out and catch.

Coromon

Setting Out on Your Journey

Coromon is a modern take on a monster catching and taming game, but with retro styled inspiration. Your character will travel around the region of Velua while catching, taming, and battling using the creatures known as Coromon. As you do this, you uncover information about a secret organization who is attempting to unleash some dark power unto the world. While this story does seem similar to other games, it’s the gameplay and progression that makes Coromon stand out from the pack.

Gotta Find Them All

Coromon does resemble games like Pokemon and Digimon in some aspects. However, the developers have made quite a few changes to the formula. Now when your monsters level up, you have the option of placing ability points in their stats instead of the guided path set for you in other games. This allows for a much more customized style of play, allowing a player to turn some monsters into, say, a glass cannon or a more defense-orientated companion. Another unique addition is that each Coromon has different potential levels, meaning some versions you come across can be more powerful in the long run. This adds a huge amount for players who like to acquire them all.

More than Meets the Eye

I also appreciate that your character in the game also has a gauntlet that has abilities to acquire throughout the game. This brings a whole new level of depth to a game style that has been a little stale over the last few years. They have also included puzzle mechanics, which look fun and challenging. When asked why this addition was made they responded with it just seemed like a fun thing to do. In my opinion it’s almost always a good idea for fans of a series to continue on and try to improve something. It can lead to new ideas and innovations that keeps genres moving forward.

For the Love of the Games

The developers of Coromon are also gamers and their fandoms clearly show through in the demo I was able to see. As they showed us their game, little nods to other game and film franchises were noted along the way. From a companion cube to a certain punching machine reminiscent of Rocky IV, there is so much to find and discover making gamers and pop culture fans happy to track them all out.

So if you are a fan of monster catching games or retro stylized games like me, then keep an eye out for Coromon. With gameplay that is reportedly well over 40 hours it should keep players happy and entertained for a long time. Who knows, this could be the beginning of a whole new franchise that could keep fans clamoring for years to come.
