Roadhouse Simulator | PC Prologue Review

If the thought of starring in your very own Road House movie sounds like a dream come true, step right up. This prologue wastes no time setting a scene that feels deeply indebted to both the Patrick Swayze classic and the recent Jake Gyllenhaal remake.

Taking Out the Trash

You arrive by bus at your brother’s bar, which is in just as rough shape as he is. Before you can even unpack, a rival gang rolls in looking for trouble while your brother is passed out drunk on the couch. Naturally, the job falls to you. In a hilariously campy twist, these fierce rivals politely wait their turn, allowing you to beat them up in structured waves. The brawling controls definitely carry the vibe of a janky physics fighter, but the developers smartened things up by putting an important emphasis on dodging and countering. If you need an extra edge during the fight, you can even track down an escaped, top-hat-wearing snake; letting him bite you provides a bizarre but effective power boost.

Be Nice… Until It’s Time to Clean Up

Even more fun comes between rounds: you have to physically pick up the unconscious thugs one by one, carry them to the entrance, and chuck them out the front door into satisfyingly messy piles. Once the dust settles, the simulator elements kick in. You swap your fists for a mop to clean up the wreckage and a hammer to repair the smashed tables and chairs. To recuperate, you stroll over to the bar for a shot of whiskey to restore your health and light up a cigarette to fill your power meter.

Roadhouse Simulator

Roadhouse Simulator does not boast outstanding graphics or groundbreaking audio design. The presentation is rough around the edges, but it completely understands its own assignment. It delivers pure, unadulterated B-movie wish fulfillment, and it has me excited to see how the full version expands on this ridiculous world.
